Dr. Chris Deister

Chris is deeply grateful for the “life, liberty and pursuit of happiness” that the Deister family has lived here, in their beloved city/home of Topeka, Kansas.
Now retired, Deister has the opportunity of offering time and talents toward the service of our great Golden City’s citizens!
Dr. Deister is a lifelong servant-leader with over 40 years of experience as a healthcare professional, educator, small business owner, and community advocate. His deep roots in Topeka, coupled with his practical knowledge and integrity, make him a trusted and capable candidate for Topeka City Council, District 9.
After earning his dental degree from the University of Missouri Kansas City in 1974, Chris served in the U.S. Army Dental Corps until 1979. He and his wife Jan, a registered Dental Hygienist from Wichita, then settled in Topeka, where they built a dental practice and raised five sons.
Beyond their professional life, the Deisters co-founded Cair Paravel Latin School in 1980 with six other families, helping to establish a classical, faith-based educational model. In 2010, Chris became an adjunct professor at The Ohio State University College of Dentistry, mentoring postdoctoral dental residents and passing on a legacy of excellence.
Now retired, Chris and Jan are active in Topeka’s civic and spiritual life, involved with Topeka Bible Church, Young Life, Topeka Rescue Mission, Harvesters, and Project Restore. They are the proud grandparents of 17 grandchildren and enjoy cycling, tennis, and supporting business and culture.
Dr. Deister’s campaign is grounded in four key priorities:
- Addressing the Tax Burden – Chris will oppose automatic annual property tax increases and champion fiscal responsibility and transparency in city spending.
- Improving Infrastructure – He will advocate for smarter, long-term solutions for Topeka’s roads and public works.
- Ensuring Accountability – With a track record in business and education, Dr. Deister will insist on efficient, well reasoned use of taxpayer dollars.
- Supporting Local Business – He is committed to fostering a pro-business environment that attracts investors and retains local enterprise.
Dr. Deister is not a career politician—he’s a neighbor, a mentor, and a dedicated community member. He will offer practical wisdom, fairness, and a listening ear on the Topeka City Council.
